If you suspect ACLF or Acute Liver Failure right now — rapidly worsening jaundice, confusion or drowsiness (encephalopathy), bleeding, or reduced urine output in a patient with known or new liver disease — this is a medical emergency. Do not wait for a scheduled appointment. Go to the nearest emergency department immediately, or call +91 83294 76669 for urgent guidance.
This service manages patients presenting with Acute-on-Chronic Liver Failure (ACLF) and Acute Liver Failure (ALF) — time-critical conditions that require rapid assessment, intensive monitoring, and, in selected cases, urgent liver transplant evaluation. Acute presentations are triaged and seen urgently on any day; they are not confined to a fixed weekly slot.
Who this is for
Patients with known chronic liver disease presenting with acute decompensation and organ dysfunction (ACLF), or patients without prior liver disease presenting with rapid-onset liver failure and encephalopathy (ALF).
Care offered
ICU-level monitoring, organ support (including renal replacement therapy where indicated), sepsis and precipitant identification and treatment, and liver support therapies such as plasma exchange in appropriate cases. Patients are assessed on an ongoing basis for transplant eligibility.
Outpatient follow-up clinic
Stable, already-treated ACLF/ALF patients are seen for structured outpatient step-down and follow-up care on Thursdays, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM. This slot is strictly for follow-up — it is not the pathway for a new or worsening acute presentation, which should always go through emergency care as above.
